What makes Freedom Food farmed salmon different from other salmon?

Freedom Food is the only welfare focused label for fish in the UK and it requires producers to be approved to standards developed by the RSPCA. The RSPCA makes sure farmed salmon have more space to swim and live in better conditions – fish are generally leaner, fitter and happier. And happy farmed salmon tastes much better!

What do you mean by fresh fish?

When we say FRESH we mean that our fish has never been frozen and it has not been hanging around the warehouse. We can deliver from sea to plate in 24 hours!

I want to buy the whole fish. How do I fillet it?

Use an 8-10 inch very sharp and flexible knife. Cut the head and all the fins off. Remove guts from the belly cavity. With the stomach opening towards you if you are right handedand with the hear to the right. Find the back bone at head end of the fish and start cutting towards the tail using the back bone as a guide. Cut through the rib bones until you reach the tail. Turn the carcass over and do the same to the other fillet. Now you should have two fillets with the rib bones attached. Take the right side fillet and turn the belly towards you. With the ice pick stab the fillet above the rib bones and towards the head end of the fillet. Take your knife and cut a line under the rib bones; but as you do, lift up with your knife tip using the under side of the bones as a guide. Continue to slice towards the tail until the bones come off. Repeat for the other side. You should recover about 50% to 55% from a whole fish.

Is your farmed salmon suitable for home freezing?

Yes. While you cannot beat the taste and texture of really fresh fish, our fish freezes exceptionally well and with little discernable loss of quality. Well wrapped farmed salmon will freeze up to 2 months in a refrigerator and 3 to 4 months in a deep freeze.

How long can I store smoked fish?

Once opened, fresh and vacuum-packaged farmed smoked fish should be consumed within seven days.

What are Omega-3 fatty acids?
